Kawaiisu Handbook Photo Collection

Handbook of the Kawaiisu (2011) was a landmark publication assembled by anthropologist Alan Garfinkel and Kawaiisu culture bearer Harold Williams. The Nüwa (or Kawaiisu) homeland is the Tehachapi Mountains, Southern Sierra Nevadas, and the lower foothills, deserts, and plains adjacent to them. Their deep historical roots are beautifully captured and documented in words and photos in the Handbook, and author Alan Garfinkel has given ARC permission to copy and publish the photos. To honor the Nüwa people, we present here the Handbook of the Kawaiisu Photo Collection.
